Course Structure
The BA (Hons.) in Art and Design: Fashion Textiles offers a broad and comprehensive education for dedicated and ambitious individuals looking for a career in the creative field of the fashion and textiles industries.
This established course has a history of producing talented and highly motivated graduates capable of working within a variety of roles. Following graduation our successful alumni now work in womenswear, menswear, childrenswear, millinery, bridalwear, styling, fashion, fabrics, interior textiles, textile arts and education, which further underline the breadth of this successful programme.
The BA (Hons.) at Colchester allows students the opportunity to work in either fashion or textiles or to combine both areas of study. Working in a creative and stimulating studio atmosphere students are encouraged to develop their individual creative potential. Students explore their concepts through a variety of live projects and national competitions.
The programme introduces students to the importance of research and the creative design process, along with the practical disciplines of pattern cutting, construction, print, weave and knit.
Students develop analytical skills and critical thinking through contextual studies lectures and seminars which explore the conception, production and consumption of contemporary Art, Design and Craft.
The programme offers a comprehensive variety of guest speakers who are actively engaged in their own practise.
Study visits to Paris and New York allow students to experience trade fairs, visit exhibitions and develop an understanding of retail markets, further enriching their experience and individual development.
The BA (Hons.) Art and Design: Fashion Textiles takes only 25 of the most dedicated and creative students who show energy, ambition and creative potential.
With young London designers, stylists, and consultants as part of the teaching team, this programme gives students first hand knowledge and professional skill and practise for their careers in the industry.
